Jacqueline Kemp has joined new Okanagan winery with estate vineyards in West Kelowna, Okanagan Falls, and the Similkameen Valley
Okanagan-based Terralux Estate Winery has appointed Jacqueline Kemp as Head Winemaker. With over two decades of experience across Burgundy, Western Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, Kemp brings a unique blend of knowledge to the Terralux winemaking team.
"We are excited to bring Jacqueline onboard as Head Winemaker. Her experience, expertise, and palate are in perfect alignment with our vision,” said Kevin Rossion, General Manager at Terralux Estate Winery. “Having her lead our winemaking will allow us to translate the balance within our vineyards into wines that are expressive of their variety and terroir.”
Kemp embarked on her winemaking journey in 1998. Following a degree in Viticulture and Oenology at New Zealand’s Lincoln University, Kemp’s winemaking career continued to progress through her time working in different renowned wine regions. She spent four years as a cellar worker in Burgundy’s Domaine Fernand et Laurent Pillot, Margaret River’s Xanadu Wines, and Wanaka’s Rippon Vineyard, before taking on winemaker and consultant winemaker roles at Central Otago’s Akarua Winery, as well as Tantalus Vineyards, Moraine Estate, and Therapy Vineyards in the Okanagan Valley. Since relocating to Canada, she has been actively involved in winemaking and viticulture, with a focus on crafting outstanding Burgundian varieties and traditional method sparkling wines.
"My goal is to make vineyard-focused wines that are balanced, elegant, and reflective of where they are grown," expressed Kemp. "My new role with Terralux Estate Winery opens an exciting new chapter in my winemaking career. I will now have the opportunity to work with some very beautiful Meritage and Syrah grapes grown in the Cawston area of the Similkameen Valley."
